How Depression Can Show Up
Depression looks different for everyone.
You may feel sad or hopeless, but depression can also show up as numbness, irritability, exhaustion, or simply feeling unlike yourself.
You might:
– Lose interest in things you once enjoyed
– Struggle with motivation or everyday responsibilities
– Pull away from friends, family, or your partner
– Feel tired, empty, or disconnected
– Become increasingly critical of yourself
– Sleep too much or struggle to sleep
– Notice changes in your appetite or eating habits
– Have difficulty concentrating
Sometimes, you may not even know why you feel this way.You just know that something feels different.
Why Depression Can Feel So Difficult to Break Out Of
When you’re depressed, even small things can feel like enormous tasks.
The worse you feel, the harder it can become to do the things that might actually help you feel better. You may stop seeing friends, lose interest in activities, or struggle to keep up with everyday responsibilities.
And the more you withdraw, the more isolated and stuck you may feel.
It can become a cycle that is difficult to break on your own.
What Is Depression?
Depression is more than simply having a bad day or going through a difficult period.
It can affect the way you think, feel, behave, and experience your everyday life.
Sometimes depression follows a difficult experience, loss, relationship change, or period of overwhelming stress. Other times, you may struggle to identify exactly why you feel the way you do.
You may simply feel unhappy, disconnected, hopeless, or unlike yourself, even when everything appears fine from the outside.
Whatever the reason, you don’t have to figure it out alone.
Depression Can Affect Your Whole Life.
You don't need to suffer in silence
Depression doesn’t stay neatly contained to one part of your life.
It can affect your relationships, work, confidence, routines, and ability
to be present with the people you care about.
You may find yourself going through the motions while feeling completely disconnected on the inside.
You may also feel ashamed to admit that you’re struggling or worry that other people won’t understand.
But depression is not a character flaw, and asking for help does not mean you’ve failed.
What It's Like to Work Together
I want therapy to feel like a genuine conversation, not like you’re sitting across from someone who is simply taking notes.
I’ll take the time to understand you as a person, what you’ve been experiencing, what you’ve already tried, and what you hope could feel different.
Our work is collaborative, interactive, and tailored to you.
You don’t have to come into therapy knowing exactly what you need. We can figure that out together.
How Depression Therapy Can Help
Depression therapy can give you a place where you don’t have to pretend that everything is okay.
Together, we can explore what has been happening in your life, what may be contributing to how you’re feeling, and the patterns that may be keeping you stuck.
The goal isn’t simply to tell you to “think positive.”
It’s about understanding yourself, reconnecting with your life, and finding realistic ways to begin feeling more like yourself again.
You Are More Than Your Depression
Depression can make you forget who you are underneath the exhaustion, hopelessness, and self-criticism.
But depression is not your identity.
You are still you, even when you don’t feel like yourself right now.
With the right support, you can begin to reconnect with yourself, rediscover hope, and create a life that feels more fulfilling.
My Approach to Depression Therapy
I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach.
My work is eclectic, which means I draw from different therapeutic approaches depending on what you need. This may include Behavioral Activation, Gestalt Therapy, EMDR, mindfulness, relaxation techniques, or creative expression.
Behavioral Activation can help you gradually reconnect with meaningful activities and explore the relationship between what you do and how you feel.
If trauma or difficult past experiences are contributing to your depression, EMDR may also be incorporated when appropriate.
We’ll figure out what works for you together.
But you still may be wondering if depression treatment is right for you...
Someone may benefit from depression therapy when persistent sadness, hopelessness, low motivation, loss of interest, exhaustion, changes in sleep or appetite, difficulty concentrating, or feeling disconnected begins to interfere with everyday life, relationships, work, or school.
A therapist can help someone understand the thoughts, emotions, behaviors, experiences, and patterns contributing to depression. Depression therapy may also focus on rebuilding routines, reconnecting with meaningful activities, developing healthier coping strategies, and addressing experiences that may be affecting how someone feels.
