Hi, I‘m Caren Jacobs

I love working with teens and young adults on the very important pursuit of finding, accepting, and embracing their authentic self.

I’m a Huntington, New York based psychotherapist, who works via telehealth all around New York state.

My role is to help you reconnect with the parts of yourself that you may have lost, due to your difficult life experiences, whatever they may be. I take a creative, eclectic yet evidence-based approach toward helping you heal and grow so that your life can feel purposeful and joyful again.

I talk like a real person

You might be picturing therapy where you’re sitting in some stuffy office with a formal and aloof stranger who basically nods her head and says “uh huh” without offering genuine feedback. How are you supposed to share your true feelings with someone that you feel little connection with? I am a warm person by nature and that’s not something you can learn from books. It’s just who I am. I care about the issues that you share with me and what you are struggling with and want to engage with you in a real way.

We’ll explore your creative side

I honor and promote and help cultivate all sorts of creative self-expression during the therapeutic process, if you are open to it. This is because I find that creative expression truly heals the soul. Whatever form of creativity that you’re comfortable in exploring, we will work with it together and use it as a tool for growth.

I’ll keep you safe

I promise to offer a haven of safety and non-judgment to clients who often come in very critical of themselves due to their past negative life experiences and traumas. It is a sacred thing for you to trust me enough to let me into your deepest vulnerability. I do not take this lightly. Your life is precious and I will help you feel comfortable in sharing your struggles with me.

When I was 13 I found the courage to tell my parents that I felt depressed and I didn't like myself.

They seemed quite surprised to hear this as I seemed happy – had a lot of friends and I was thriving in school. But, deep down inside, I knew something was wrong, even if I didn’t understand why I was feeling this way about myself.

Awkward and self-conscious, I shuffled into my first session of therapy, not knowing what to expect and afraid that if the person before me saw the real me, she would reject me. It was to my surprise how quickly I connected with my first therapist. I was so lucky to find her on the first try! She helped me uncover my darkest secrets and share them in a space of non-judgement and unconditional love. It was these first experiences in therapy that, ultimately led to my decision to become a psychotherapist.
